CRONULLA

GET TO KNOW
THE AREA

Buzzy Cronulla is more than a beachside suburb; it’s a destination that has long been attracting people to its shores, be it for seaside picnics or weekend jaunts. Bordered by the waters of Gunnamatta Bay and Bate Bay, Cronulla has an impressive line-up of beaches and parks that overlook some stunning scenery. And all of it goes hand-in-hand with Cronulla’s love affair with all things sport.

Lifestyle

This seaside beauty is unlike any other, with its string of beaches, rock pools and lush parklands; and Cronulla takes full advantage of it all. Perfectly positioned on a peninsula in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, locals grow up in and around water.

Cronulla Beach and North Cronulla Beach are steps away from Cronulla’s main hub. When the sun is overhead, the long stretches of sand are filled with people who are cooling off in the water or in the shade of oversized beach umbrellas.

A little further south along the peninsula, there are a string of much smaller beaches and rock pools, and lush parklands hug the water’s edge. Gunnamatta Park is a favourite foreshore park with a protected swimming area.

Rise early before the sun breaks across the horizon, and you will start to get a sense of what this beachside suburb is all about. Surfing is a way of life, as is bodyboarding, bodysurfing, ocean swimming, water skiing and wakeboarding. On land, sports are just as revered, the much-loved rugby league team, Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks are a source of local pride, and soccer, baseball, football, netball, triathlons all have a place here.

Then there is Cronulla’s burgeoning foodie scene. Taking full advantage of its location, dining with a view is the norm and beachwear is optional. In and around Cronulla Street, cafés, eateries and restaurants keep popping up, but none others do it quite like Blackwood Pantry, 1908, The Nuns Pool and Pilgrim’s Café. The nightlife is just as vibrant with bars, pubs and nightclubs staying open into the wee hours of the morning. Northies is a local institution, and Low & Loftys is all about espresso martinis and live beats.

The last stop on the Illawarra Train Line, Cronulla is renowned for being the only beachside suburb that is accessible by train, which is kind of a big deal in Sydney. Combined with Cronulla’s reputation for being all about good times on and off the land, makes this beachside beauty a destination in its own right.

Neighbours

Cronulla has been home to the likes of Lara Bingle, Toni Pearen, and Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, as well as a series of triathletes and football players. And with the lifestyle that Cronulla has on offer, it comes as no surprise that growing families with white-collar workers at the helm feel just at home here as young millennials.
