Citizens of the World: Coolest Places on the Central Coast

Influencers, photographers, writers and travel gurus – dynamic husband and wife duo Meghan & Dominic Loneragan know a thing or two about telling a wistful travel tale. Their popular travel and lifestyle blog, Citizens of the World, has taken them on adventures all over the world – from New Zealand to New York to the humble shores of New South Wales.

Having recently made the move from Sydney to Long Jetty on the Central Coast, we were keen to catch up with the jet-set pair to find out their favourite places in the area. So in between their stories of wanderlust, here’s where they go to eat, drink, shop and explore.

Favourite place on the Coast for...

Coffee?

Lucky Surf & Supply in Long Jetty. Dog friendly, amazing coffee and an awesome selection of designer surf products. One day I might splurge on a board from there. There’s also a gallery of local art talent out the back.

Brunch?

Bellyfish Terigal for the incredible service and great people watching views from your table.

Breakfast?

Green Tangerine Long Jetty across the road from The Glass Onion. Sometimes we swap around. Both these places are so good.

Favourite place to impress?

Or we make an afternoon-into-evening of it and head to The Boathouse Hotel Patonga. It’s about a 50-minute drive away, but so stunning and worth it for wine and dreamy sunset views.

Dinner?

Sticking with Mexican, Hernando’s Hideaway Mexican Kitchen in Long Jetty is relaxed and oh so delicious. Plus, just a walk home after a few margaritas.

Fancy local place to take guests?

Bombini Near Terrigal. They have more formal dining in the renovated Queenslander-style house on the property and amazing pizzas upstairs.

Lunch on the go?

Mexicoast in Terrigal. Just such delicious Tex-Mex and fun to grab and go sit on the beach.

Leisurely lunch?

The tacos at Modern Organic in Long Jetty are our favourite thing at the moment. It took us SO long to venture in here because the outside doesn’t really showcase the cool outdoor area they have out back.

Or if you’re looking to splurge a little then visit Saddles Bakehouse

https://www.instagram.com/saddlesmtwhite/

which has such a fun décor.

Quick bite?

This is Common Ground.

Girls night?

Grab an outdoor table at Mumbo Jumbos Beach House in Terrigal. The views across to the sea are incredible and I love the fun energy.

Walk/run?

Our favourite place to walk our baby and puppy is along Tuggerah Lake in the early evening. There are a few playgrounds to stop at and there’s always lots of kids for Lachie to play with.

After work drinks?

The Savoy Long Jetty is usually always buzzing with people and we love that it’s upstairs so you can sit by the window and watch the action below.

Local date night

The Savoy Long Jetty is our newest addition. It’s a cocktail bar and cinema that sits above the Pawn Shop (so if you blink sometimes you can miss it).  It’s always full of cool in-the-know locals.

Have a romantic night?

Dinner on the deck at Woy Woy Fishermans Wharf.

Get away from it all?

Locally? Ettalong is about 40 minutes away but such a wonderful relaxed place to escape to.

Internationally? New Zealand is our favourite place on earth. Especially Wanaka for it’s incredible hiking.

Impress?

Frankies Rooftop in Woy Woy. It’s pan-Asian cuisine by former Longrain chef Matty Bennett, so we feel like it really proves to newcomers that the coast really has everything.

Indulge?

Glow Beauty Space in Wamberal has the prettiest pink interiors. It’s woman heaven. They also specialise in hair and facials.

Get your hair done?

I go to both Rhy Rhys Hair Salon and Moxie and Muse in Long Jetty. We are spoiled for amazing hair stylists here.

Get your nails done?

Illusion Nails in Bateau Bay. But only for special occasions.

 Fashion boutiques?

Dapper Darlings has an incredible array of well-edited vintage clothing and accessories. Lots of denim shorts and Harley Davidson tees from California.

I also love stepping Shadow Bang– which is a clothing store inside a very cute A-Frame house along the main drag of Long Jetty.

Bars?

The best place for a Sunday session is The Shelly Beach Golf Club. It has the best view to match with a wine. It’s not super fancy but watching whales on the coast while you relax is utterly priceless.

Way to spend a Sunday in Long Jetty?

The best way to spend a Sunday is to wake up, start the day with a stroll along Shelly Beach then head towards Long Jetty to grab a coffee at Lucky Surf Co and brunch at The Glass Onion. Afterwards spend an hour or so exploring the vintage stores and boutiques around town.

Then once it’s really warm, grab your surfboard and have a crack at the waves at Shelly or stand up paddleboard in Toowoon Bay (which is a lot more chilled).

Gyms/fitness studios?

We’re members of Mingaraone – which is just a 10-minute drive from Long Jetty. It’s such a modern, bright gym. It’s like a big glass box and I love their ballet barre class.

Venue for views?

Definitely The Boathouse Hotel Patonga – those views across just can’t be beaten and Patonga itself feels so tucked away from the rest of the world.

Beach?

Take your pick! North Shelly Beach is dog-friendly, Toowoon Bay has calmer waters so it’s great for us a family, Blue Bay is perfect for a surf. It’s also a LOT of fun to head down to The Entrance in the afternoon and just splash about in the shallows with kids

Citizens of the World
 Family-friendly cafés & restaurants?

The Glass Onion Society by far. Proabably because the owners have kids themselves.

Local playgrounds?

There are two playgrounds on either side of The Entrance Road as you drive into Long Jetty. One even has an accessible swing for kids’ wheelchairs. So lovely.

Place for family time?

The Entrance to watch the daily Pelican feedings.
