Renowned for being very quiet on weekends, when the working week kicks in North Sydney is in full swing servicing the professional crowd and the prestigious educational institutions that lie within its bounds.
North Sydney is well serviced by a network of trains, buses and ferries, and its streets are heavily congested with commuters during the week. Greenwood Plaza is the main shopping centre and has a line-up of shops and cafés that cater to the professional crowd. Above the plaza and overshadowed by towering skyscrapers, the historic sandstone Greenwood Hotel has been reimagined as a gastro pub with four bars.
Tall skyscrapers sit beside high-rise apartments that capitalise on Sydney Harbour views. Head further up Miller and Walker Streets and the towering buildings give way to beautiful Victorian-style houses, giving North Sydney a more residential feel. North Sydney Oval, the home of North Sydney Bears Rugby, and adjoining St Leonards Park are much loved green spaces.
On weekends, locals gravitate towards the sprinkling of cafés to be found on West and Miller Streets, enjoying the peaceful hiatus before the Monday morning crowds descend on North Sydney once again.
