Gin lovers will find their spiritual home at this café come gin sanctuary. The coffee by day, gin bar by night concept means that the menu turns from poached eggs to pulled pork sliders come 5pm. The atmosphere is that of a retro milkbar, with vintage collectibles and tasteful op-shop finds.
Grind & Dose
Devoted to serving the best coffee this side of the bridge, Grind & Dose shows North Shore locals that Sydney’s coffee-loving scene is not only for the trendy city suburbs. The Greens North Sydney
A bowls club with a twist. The refurbished bowling club is perfect for brunching as well as drinking. A café-slash-bar-slash-bowling club, with a garden party like feel. A sunset bowl is possible, and the Screen on The Green nights every Thursday make for a perfect date night.
Charlie & Franks
Good quality burgers are teamed with ethically sourced coffee which make the office workers of North Sydney flood into this hip hangout come lunchtime. You'll find their Pablo & Rustys blend used in your espresso shot or if you’re after another type of shot, try their cold-pressed tonics for a dose of health.
NOSH+ has a loyal patronage who love the unique coffee and quirky menu. Think Vietnamese style iced lattes (with condensed milk) paired with flaky puffins – aka puffy muffins. The interiors include flowers in wine-bottle vases, cheeky chalkboard banter and makeshift crate tables. Our favourite part? The “Have a look, Take a book” shelf, aka a communal book exchange for café goers.
An appreciation for quality coffee is required here, with The Roots using Single Origin coffee beans and offering pour-over and siphon options. A carefully curated selection of sandwiches is available and the industrialised fit out is light-filled and raw, moving the focus back onto their main game - good coffee.
Bourke Street Bakery North Sydney
The store is tiny compared to the bakery’s other Sydney establishments, but the hole-in-the-wall cafe plays into its artisan appeal. Pop past for a coffee and pastry on the go, or snag one of the seats inside to savour the moment (and treats). Our advice, get in early on Saturday to stock up for the weekend.
Maker's Loft Craft Cafe
More than a place to get your daily caffeine fix, here you can schedule your caffeine ingestion with the workshop classes at Makers Loft, with sewing, knitting, felting, soap and candle making tutorials on offer. An all day brekkie menu and craft, seriously there is no reason to leave.
Sotto On West
Nestled on North Sydney’s leafy West Street, Sotto does laidback café fare impeccably, and you can be sure that your weekend pace won’t be interrupted by lingering waiters keen for you to free up a table. Lap up the sun as you graze on seasonal fare washed down with a Single Origin brew.
Crumbs Cafe Cremorne
Crumbs is a cute and quirky café in a prime corner position on Military Road. Opt for a seat at the window bar or choose a table by the retro art-filled walls. Bringing the kids? The good people at Crumbs have got you covered with lots of old school children’s books on hand.
Don Adan Coffee
Don Adan is renowned for their single origin blend which uses beans from the family plantation in Honduras. The Central American breakfast and lunch menu is a welcome change to classic café offerings in the area. The space oozes character and has an unmistakable 90’s vibe with booth seating and vintage art pieces dotting the walls.
Shot on Military
Military Road may be infamous for slow traffic, but this café is anything but. The takeaway coffee service is quick, and the food menu includes many on-the-go options. The space is colorful and bright and unapologetically trendy with a vertical garden and recycled timber décor. Try their locally roasted blend, aptly named “Ammo” which is sure to wake you up with a solid dose of caffeine.
Siborb Café is tucked away in a quiet, leafy spot off Military Road and dishes up coffee and brunch fare. These guys do basics well, but their warm, attentive service is what sets them apart. Don’t let the humble exterior fool you because this quaint café is definitely worth a visit!
The Espresso Room
Loyal clientele frequent this hidden coffee haven for their top quality Campos coffees and tasty Sonoma sandwiches. The service is always friendly and the baristas ensure you get your coffee just the way you like it. The Espresso room is a quality option for 9-5’ers before heading to work, with a breakfast menu that is quick and delicious.
