10 Eco-Friendly Homewares Stores Around Sydney

Building, renovating or just dressing up the décor in your home? Sydney is a design lover’s dream, with stores selling modern, vintage, quirky and beautifully bespoke pieces. And now, you no longer need to compromise style for sustainability. If you want to go green, you can: eco-chic homewares stores are popping all over the city, just waiting for you to fill your home with fabulous, feel-good purchases.

These are 10 of our favourites.

Upcycle Studio

St Peters’ Precinct 75 hub is home to the city’s creatives, and Upcycle Studio is the perfect fit. In their design careers, the two founders were frustrated with their search for beautifully designed, upcycled products – so they decided to open up their own store. It stocks sustainable homewares and gifts, as well as reusable items like coffee cups and lunchboxes.

Planet Furniture

Planet’s philosophy is to ‘make the world a more beautiful place,’ and they’re right on point. You could deck out your entire home with its gorgeous range, which includes furniture and lighting as well as ceramics, textiles, tableware and artworks. The brand is the definition of eco-chic, and known for its simple, sustainable pieces that are made to last.

Totem Road

In Paddington, Totem Road is an interior design hotspot – and for good reason. The store is known for its striking, sustainable furniture, most of which is made from solid oak. Every piece can be traced back to its place of origin, and is designed to last a lifetime. As for the brand’s style, it’s a mix between mid-century and Scandinavian design.

Top tip: Love the look of timber? Pop into Mark Tuckey’s showroom in Newport Beach. He uses recycled and sustainably sourced timber for all his furniture.

Stretching across a warehouse space in Rosebery, Koskela is all about homegrown talent. The brand was the first furniture and homewares store in Australia to be a Certified B Corp, which means it has serious eco cred. Everything is made here, from the timber tables and cushy chairs to the candles and lampshades weaved by Indigenous artisans.

With shops dotted all over Sydney, Eco Down Under is a success in sustainability. The store is as pretty as it is practical, and packed with lush linens, towels, bedding, cushions and throws. They’re free from chemicals and synthetic fibres to feel soft against even the most sensitive skin.

For beautiful neutrals and earthy, textural pieces, go straight to Papaya. The store is brimming with gorgeous homewares, kitchenware and accessories, and most of them let the natural beauty of the raw materials shine through. Made in far-flung places from Europe to Morocco, every piece tells a story – and it’s a sustainable one.

Bondi Junction, Chatswood Chase, Mosman, Birkenhead Point

One of Sydney’s most-loved brands, Jardan scores a lot of points for sustainability. As you wander through its Paddington flagship, you’ll see an achingly sophisticated selection of furniture, homewares and lighting. Behind the scenes, the company treads lightly on the planet by using local materials and cutting down on waste and energy use.

Commune Bondi

A treasure trove of natural, handmade homewares, Commune Bondi started as a passion project by a Bondi local. She wanted to know the story behind each product she purchased, and at Commune, that’s exactly what you get. With a peachy, coastal palette, the store is as chic as the homewares it sells, which are made by artisans all over the world.
