Volunteer in Sydney: 7 Ways to Give Back This Christmas

With Christmas just around the corner, frolics and festivities are well and truly underway – silly season is a busy time of year to say the least. But in between all the fun and celebrations, we can often forget that there are so many people much less fortunate than ourselves, who might not have the option of spending a cosy Christmas with family and friends. So, if you have some spare time over the holidays and would like to help those in need, we’ve found some great ways to give back over Christmas. From volunteer work to charity donations, here are some wonderful ways to spread the love in Sydney this festive season.

Jamie’s Italian Charity Lunch

Swinging open their doors in Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane, Jamie’s Italian will be hosting a free charity lunch for families on Christmas Day, to spread a little festive cheer. Amazingly, every single location has been fully booked with festive little helpers. But if you’d still like to be part of the fun, you can donate to Jamie’s Good Food Foundation – a charity that educates and inspires families to cook healthily, in a bid to fight against childhood obesity in Australia.

Meals on Wheels

This nifty little charity delivers healthy, nutritious meals to old and young people with disabilities, and to their carers. Volunteers offer up their services all-year-round – whether it’s helping to prepare and cook the food in the kitchens or deliver meals in their cars. Whichever you’d prefer to help with, Meals on Wheels will be grateful with a few extra pair of hands over Christmas.

Wayside Chapel

Wayside Chapel has been providing love, care and support for homeless people in and around Kings Cross for over 50 years, and each year they host one of the biggest events for the needy. This year they’ll be throwing two free celebrations: a Christmas Day Lunch Street Party in Potts Point, and a Christmas Day BBQ at Bondi Bathers Life Saving Club. Hundreds have already volunteered their services for both events, but you can go along yourself and join in with the festivities. Plus, in the spirit of Christmas giving, you can also give $25 to their ‘Donate a Plate’ campaign, to feed a homeless person this Christmas.
