8 of the Best Kids Activities in the Eastern Suburbs

When your little ones need an outlet for all that boundless energy, Sydney is incredibly family-friendly, and if you’re based in the east, you won’t need to travel too far. This coastal pocket is brimming with places that will keep the kids entertained (and sneakily boost their skill set), from arts and crafts workshops to sports and even a coding camp.

Here are 10 of the best kids activities in the Eastern Suburbs.

Snorkeling

Sydney is dotted with beautiful, calm bays that are perfect for snorkelling, so don your masks and head down to Gordons Bay or Clovelly Beach, both of which are teeming with sea life. Stay in the shallow waters, or if your kids are confident swimmers, try the Gordons Bay coastal trail, which leads snorkelers past reefs, kelp forests, starfish and urchins.

Ian Potter Children’s WILD PLAY Garden

In Centennial Park, this stunning nature play space features a water playground, bamboo forest, banksia tunnels, turtle mounds, and a treehouse. It’s designed to engage the five senses and help children to reconnect with nature, and you’ll love seeing them get lost in awe and wonder at the landscape. Pack a picnic lunch, and stay a while. The Garden is open from 10-5pm daily.

Inner Child Yoga

Aaand relax. Kids are stimulated all day, every day, so help them to chill out with yoga. Led by a yogi and mother, ‘Miss Katie,’ Inner Child Yoga runs classes for preschool and primary school aged children. The award-winning classes use hatha poses (there is nothing cuter!), games, breathing exercises and meditation to build body awareness, confidence and mindfulness.

Top tip: If the kids are keen to learn more about sea life, the Marine Discovery  Centre at Bondi Beach holds interactive talks most days.

Sky Zone

When your kids really need to burn some energy, make a direct beeline for Sky Zone. It’s an epic indoor trampoline park with 100 interconnected trampolines to bounce on, plus a rock climbing area where your little one’s car soar to great heights. There is a dedicated toddler area and a café on-site to keep you well caffeinated throughout your visit.

And one that is as much for the parents as it is for the kids …

Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq

Think arcades meets bar in a kid-friendly setup. Brilliant! They have all the old favourites – dodgem cars, carousels, arcade games, pinball machines, bowling, laser tag – it’s seriously epic. Dazzler’s Diner has the classic hamburger and shakes and the bar has everything the adults among us would desire. From 8pm, Cirque Electriq is an over 18 venue, so be sure to arrive early for some G-rated fun.

Stand-up paddleboarding

When the sun is shining, sign up the kids for Watsons Bay Stand-Up Paddleboarding. While you sit on the beach sipping on a coffee and soaking up the harbour views, they’ll learn about water safety, gain confidence on a paddleboard and run up to you, all salty smiles, with a certificate of completion. The program is ideal for ages 7-12.
