Originating on the main drag of Ashfield and now with over five stores across Australia, New Shanghai has built a cult following of locals due to their generous servings of house-made dumplings, noodles, soups, rice and vegetable dishes. An Ashfield gem, New Shanghai’s setting is colourful and vibrant, a nod to 1930s Shanghai. A visit to New Shanghai would not be complete without trying one of their signature soup dumpling creations.
As the name attests, Pho 234 does a mean pho. With its bright red interiors and no-fuss decor, this Liverpool Road eatery is an authentic cheap eat. Sticking to classic Vietnamese cuisine, if you are after a delicious pho, noodle soup or stir-fry, Pho234 is the place to dine in or takeaway.

He notes that out of his four restaurants Ashfield is his favourite due to its expansive and peaceful dining area (perfect for families and groups). Over and above that the dishes are pretty exceptional too, think gyoza, ramen, sushi, sashimi and bento boxes.
