Thirroul is neatly placed between Austinmer and Bulli, both areas with plenty of charm and conveniences, while Sydney is an hour away. Many residents commute to and from the city for work, and Thirroul is the perfect escape from the daily grind – relaxed, slow-paced, and community-focused, with room to move.

The arts and culture scene is lively. There are three galleries in town as well as Anita’s Theatre, a live music venue. Ask locals about the best time to visit, and they’ll say summer or the weekend of the Thirroul Seaside and Arts Festival – this festival treats locals to lively art displays, carnival rides, market stalls, music performances and a junior surf competition for a weekend every March/April. Best of all, the funds are funnelled back into the community each year.

THIRROUL BEACH

The beating heart of the suburb is Thirroul Beach, a patrolled stretch of sand with great surfing and swimming conditions as well as a saltwater pool. The beach is dog-friendly in the early mornings and evenings, and home to BBQ facilities, picnic shelters and Thirroul Kiosk for seaside snacks.

BIKE TRACKS

Thirroul is a cyclist’s dream, with beautiful biking paths along the coastline. The Wollongong to Thirroul bike track is one of the most popular, which starts at Thirroul and stretches all the way to Wollongong Harbour. Professionals share the wide, flat path with kids and more leisurely riders.

CAFE CULTURE

Thirroul’s burgeoning café and dining scene just keeps getting better. Curbside or beachside, each has its own unique character and is all about good food and coffee.

Thirroul’s streets are lined with palm trees and a mix of contemporary and older homes, apartments, and sprawling properties. It’s a competitive market that caters to different tastes and budgets.
