BROKE

Get to know
the area

There’s no doubt that Broke is the quieter pocket of the Hunter Valley, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less alluring. Stunning countryside and untamed wilderness surround an area that is spoilt with beautiful wineries, similar to that of Pokolbin and Lovedale. A road less travelled, Broke has a slower-paced cellar door trail, with charming bed and breakfasts for weekend getaways.

Lifestyle

With all that the Hunter Valley has to offer, it may be obvious to pinpoint Pokolbin as the hub of it all, given the sheer number of offerings that are located in the area. But make no mistake, its smaller and quieter neighbouring suburb, Broke, has just as much to offer.

Just ask a local what they love about Broke and they’ll likely wax lyrical about the tight-knit community, blissful country setting, and its array of beautiful wineries . And all while enjoying a laid-back, slower pace of life.

Take, for example, the cellar doors dotted throughout Broke. They tend to be humbler in size and are often located off the beaten track. Which typically means they are less crowded, so you may just find yourself savouring every sip of Shiraz, all the more.

Broke is also home to some truly unique stopovers, including Krinklewood Vineyard, a romantic French-inspired and ivy-covered cellar door. Located along Wollombi Road, they serve holistically-made organic wines. And then there’s Pickled & Pitted, a sweet specialty store plonked amongst an olive grove, situated along Singleton Street, selling handmade soaps and skincare products.

No matter what road you drive down in Broke, there’s a calming experience wherever you roam. With a backdrop of natural beauties like the Brokenback Range and Yellow Rock keeping you company on your journey, there’s every reason to relax and unwind and let the picturesque rural setting wash over you. It’s no wonder why outdoor activities such as hot air ballooning and horseback riding are so popular in this area. With these types of surrounding views, who wouldn’t want to explore the great outdoors?

It’s the scenery that really defines Broke’s idyllic lifestyle. It’s why people travel from near and far for gourmet wine stays, where they can sit and relax on the verandah with a delicious local drop and soak up the glorious countryside that surrounds.  Whether you’re visiting for the weekend or considering a permanent tree change, Broke is a town that’s well worth exploring.
