An oldie but a goodie, Tex Mex is everyone’s favourite Mexican cantina, and they have been serving up some of the best Mexican-slash-Texan fare since 1987. Look out for the fiesta-filled saloon on Barrenjoey Road and make a beeline for their housemade guacamole, Tex Mex Enchiladas, Burrito Decasa, Tex Mex Fajitas, and traditional margaritas.

You won’t find striped ponchos or flashy sombreros at this Hacienda. Instead, you’ll find chic interiors, stylish margaritas and some of the best hand-rolled fish tacos in Sydney. On any given night, Mexicano has a lively atmosphere, platters of colourful guacamole and soft-shell tacos and a seemingly endless supply of Coronas and margaritas. Make sure you book ahead as tables get snatched up quickly.
2/209-211 Ocean Street, Narrabeen
For the best tacos on the Northern Beaches (big call, we know), head to MX Mona Vale. An extension of Mexicano in Narrabeen, MX Mona Vale is a tiny hole-in-the-wall taqueria that has perfected the art of the hand-rolled taco. Chipotle Braised Beef, Crispy Pork Belly, Grilled Achiote Chicken and of course Battered Fish are the tasty tacos available on their dine-in and takeaway menu.
4a/1 Waratah Street, Mona Vale
A Manly favourite, Chica Bonita is a raucous mingling of Mexican fare and Baja California charm. The creative menu is a tasty mix of Mexican and Mexi-Cali ingredients from the hands of head chef Alex Wong. Truffle quesadillas, Baja Fish Tacos, California Burritos, Chimichangas, and their famous Plantation Chips are just some of the flavoursome dishes that have the crowds lining up out the door.
9/7 The Corso, Manly
Another shrine to the much-loved Mexican-Baja flavours, Mu Cha Cha in Curl Curl serves scrumptious Mexican fare from their tiny fiesta-filled cantina on Pitt Road. You’ll find all your Mexican favourites on the menu, including beef, chicken and fish burritos, quesadillas, taco bowls, tortilla chips and taquitos. With reasonable prices and large portions, you might want to consider wearing loose clothing.
3/142 Pitt Road, North Curl Curl
Modern Mexican fare is what this beachside diner is all about. If you’re stopping by in the morning, breakfast burritos are on the menu and will hit the spot with scrambled eggs, chorizo, pickled onion and tomato chutney. Dedicated taco fans will be impressed with their extensive taco menu, which includes shredded beef, pulled pork, spring chicken, fish, halloumi and even a veggie and tofu option.
158 Pacific Parade, Dee Why
Although technically not a Mexican restaurant, Deck Bar’s Flathead Tacos are so good we had to make an exception. Located across the road from Dee Why Beach, Deck Bar’s two-storey establishment is the place to go for festive food and a festive atmosphere. If your Mexican cravings have kicked in, start with their Tostadas with Guac and Salsa followed by Beef Nachos, Flathead Tacos or their Smash Your Own Guacamole share plate.
