Sydney's Best Greek Restaurants

There comes a time when all you really want is some seriously good Greek food - be it spanakopit, moussaka, gyros or souvlaki. So loosen that belt buckle and make room for some deliciousness at these high-dining to street-style Greek establishments across Sydney.

GRK Souvlaki

If a quick Greek fix is on the agenda, GRK is the place for you. The souvlaki is lathered in owner Stathias Kollias’ secret marinade and makes for utterly succulent skewers of pork, chicken, lamb or kotobacon. Yep, that’s chicken wrapped in bacon. Grilled meats served by the plate come with tomatoes, onions, chips, tzatziki, GRK sauce and pita bread.

The Apollo

The Apollo in Potts Point is an absolute must for Greek loving Sydneysiders. The saganaki cheese with honey and oregano is the stuff of (Greek) legend and a non-negotiable. A smattering of dishes cooked over wood and charcoal including the BBQ octopus, lamb shoulder and snapper, will have you wishing you had a spare stomach.

44 Macleay Street, Potts Point

1821

Spread over three stories, 1821 pays homage to the homeland with a myriad of Grecian motifs throughout the sophisticated venue. Rather than the typical mullet roe, 1821’s Taramasalata dip uses swordfish roe from the island of Kalymnos. The ouzo cured salmon and prawn saganaki are irresistible while the BBQ lamb shoulder with wilted silverbeet, leek and herbed yoghurt is sublime.

The Reservoir

The Greek influence at Surry Hills’ The Reservoir has proved to be the midas touch for this much loved café. If you’re hoping to throwback to your Greek holiday with a gyros hit, their soft shell crab version is utterly scrumptious. Every typical meze option is available, while the oven roasted and chargrilled meats will fill even the most ravenous of men.

Alpha

Alpha captures the philosophy of Greek dining through classic techniques and modern share dishes. A delicious host of mezes sees smoked eggplant dip, and the three cheese baked eggplant among other entrées while the octopus twice cooked is a strong contender from the grill and rotisserie offering. The eggplant moussaka with seared scallops is second to none.

238 Castlereagh Street, Sydney

Parea Greek Tavern

Strictly authentic in their cooking, Parea only uses recipes that have been handed down through the generations. The quartet of dips is a sound starting point with taramosalata, tzatziki, kafteri and eggplant served alongside pita bread, same goes for the spanakopites and moussaka. Souvlaki plates comprise the main options, with 1-4 souvlakia served with chips, salad and pita bread.

46-48 Rocky Point Road, Kogarah

Two Fold

The relaxed, bistro style Two Fold at the Civic Hotel is the best place to satisfy hunger with laidback Greek fare. A meze platter boasts all the favourites from tzatziki to dolmades while the Haloumi chips are just the thing Australian pub fare has been lacking. Hot tip: the spanakopita goes down delightfully with a glass of pinot grigio.

388 Pitt Street, Sydney

MGM Medusa Greek Meze

This inner-city haunt brings lunch and dinner to city dwellers looking for a speedy and filling feed. Great for group dining or power lunches, opt for one of their banquet menus. This way you can sample all of your Greek favourites; think mezze plates, calamari, halloumi, souvlaki and baklava. Don’t forget to add ouzo to your order.
