Sydney institution Spice Temple delivers beautiful, authentic Chinese food within their equally stunning space. The silk curtains, rich red carpets and black furnishings set the scene for a dim sum feast. There are seven varieties of dumpling, bun and wonton on the menu, and our suggestion would be to order one of everything!

Spice Alley's Shanghai Dumpling Bar delivers an authentic Asian street food experience. Specialising in handmade, rainbow-coloured dumplings, there is an array of flavours for every palate. Decide whether you want your dumplings potsticker, boiled or in a broth, and get amongst the lively atmosphere down Kensington Street's Spice Alley.

Originating on the main drag of Ashfield and now with over five stores across Australia, New Shanghai has built a steady following of avid fans due to their generous servings of house made dumplings and their handmade noodles. Their dumplings range from the traditional pork and chive to chicken and celery, fish and everything in between.

Luyu and Yumyum

Luyu and Yumyum mixes traditional tea and gourmet dumplings to great success. Indulge in the Truffle Dumpling Skewer or the Caviar Dumpling. For something a little less highbrow there’s the “Kiss Me” Dumpling which is filled with chicken, ginger, shallots and homemade soup. The restaurant also serves a range of mains and cocktails for those keen to party.

Chinese Noodle Restaurant

One of Sydney’s hidden gems, Chinese Noodle Restaurant is the epitome of no frills, authentic Chinese. Tucked away in Haymarket, this restaurant serves up classic dumplings and handmade noodles in a tiny space that is always full. If you want a genuine Chinese dining experience or delicious, fresh and cheap dumplings, then this is the place for you.

Momo Bar

As the name suggests, Manly’s Momo Bar is the place to get your hands on succulent Nepalese dumplings. They’re filled with chicken, pork, lamb, organic lentils and mixed vegetables, and although they’re the only Nepalese fare on the menu, the momos are so tasty you won’t be interested in looking at anything else on offer.

Popular because of their great value for money and proximity to The Metro, Sea Bay Restaurant is the perfect place to head for some pre-show dumplings and a BYO beer. Always full, this city joint serves up a range of Chinese mains as well as a wide selection of steamed, fried and boiled dumplings.

Johnny Wong’s Dumpling Bar

Known for their $1 Wednesdays, Johnny Wong’s is a favourite for those who like a cocktail with their dumpling. Above Kinsela’s on Oxford Street they may not have the longest list of options but they are open late on weekends making it the perfect stop for a midnight snack. Their Xio Long Bao is always a winner!

For this eatery, the name says it all. Expect a variety of steamed, pan fried and gluten free dumplings and a long list of speciality and craft beers. Tucked away in Potts Point this small venue nails the basics, delicious dumplings, a small number of sides, and beer. Patrons can also BYO wine for $5 per bottle .

Din Tai Fung

Dubbed the “world’s tastiest dumpling” by chef Ken Hom, Din Tai Fung takes a more traditional and strategic approach to their dumpling preparation and cooking. Every pork dumpling shell is made to measure between 4.8 to 5.2 grams and once filled measures between 20.8 to 21.2 grams, they are then cooked for precisely three minutes before being served.

Mr Wong

This award-winning Merivale venue offers gourmet dumplings that mix traditional and contemporary flavours in an elegant setting. Their steamed menu offers king crab with golden soup, crystal dumpling, eggplant and chive and roast duck dumpling among others. Their separate fried menu features flavour combinations such as pan fried Szechuan style lamb dumpling and crispy calamari and foie gras dumpling.
