Beer gardens and the Australian summer go hand in hand, and no other suburb does it as well as Rozelle and Balmain on Sydney’s Inner West. With some of Sydney’s oldest and intriguing pubs, why not spend an afternoon at one of these local haunts.
This Pasifika themed beer garden is home to thatched roofed cabanas, macramé baskets, Astroturf and a whole lot of fun. Pull up a pew under the hanging coloured lights and Tiki some weight off. But in all seriousness, this bright beer garden is great for a bubbly catch up with friends and can also be hired out for functions. The kitchen serves up regular specials during the week and offers a wide range of share platters in addition to all your pub favourites with a gourmet twist.

Despite being home to a hatted restaurant, the low-key bar and beer garden is the perfect place for whiling away those lazy summer afternoons. Loved for their wide variety of craft beer and classic weekly pub specials you can pop by for after work drinks or join them for one of their fun filled events. If you enjoy a bit of competition try your hand at their Tinnie Table Tennis extravaganzas and pick up some prizes if you’re lucky, or relax as a spectator and watch the mayhem unfold.

Their menu is a mixture of classic pub fare and fresh flavourful curries with its variety making it perfect for large groups and hungry hoards. It may not be your typical beer garden, but the light filled leafy back bar at Cat and Fiddle Hotel comes very close, so we thought we’d mention it any way. The long black tables positioned under hanging ferns, all lit by a ceiling of sky lights, brings this garden themed dining room pretty close to the great outdoors. Known for their plush interiors, up-market clientele and well stocked bar, this gastro-pub is more cocktails with the girls than beers with the boys. Come for a tasty meal and soak up the elegant surrounds.
