Eclectic Eats: The Best Cafés in Glebe for Coffee and Brekkie

If the cafés in a suburb are a reflection of the area, then Glebe’s café scene ticks every box – a little edgy and a little bohemian, with an eclectic melting pot of people and cultures. From innovative plant-based creations at Gathered Kitchen (think vegan maple bacon), to bookshop cafés serving up famous books on plates – there’s no denying that creativity is at Glebe's very core. Here’s the run-down of where to find the best coffee and breakfast nosh in this quirky enclave.

Sappho Books, Café and Wine Bar

Fans of literature can’t get enough of this Inner City gem. Sappho Books has artfully mastered the book/coffee combo with effortless flair. You can pick up an out of print or hard to find book in this charming second hand bookstore, before heading through to the courtyard café – a little oasis in the heart of Glebe’s busy strip. Their menu items are named after famous books – our favourite being The Catcher In The Rye (avo on rye bread – genius!).

Gathered Kitchen

This delicious plant-based café takes a flavour-first approach to Glebe's vegetarian and vegan food scene. A health-conscious eatery that serves up delicious café classics, ensuring that everything is vegan and vegetarian-friendly. Our pick: the halloumi stack, or lemongrass waffles with fake maple bacon. Mmmmm.
