Shop and Wine Bar

The cafe/wine bar fusion is an intimate venue with vino to be enjoyed on short stools and rustic tables. The hole-in-the-wall style bar offers mainly organic and preservative free wine (well, it’s Bondi) and small range of cocktails, beers and ciders. A few drops can be enjoyed either inside with a friend or two or outside on the footpath for a people-watching session.

Love Tilly Devine

This Darlinghurst crowd-pleaser was destined for greatness with chef Tim Webber (ex Sean’s Panaroma) and sommelier Matt Swieboda (ex-Quay) behind it. The wine bar, which is hard to find but worth the search, has an intimate feel with a modern, brutalist touch – wooden tables lie beside exposed brick and an open style kitchen.

As the name suggests, the wine menu here reads more like a book. This hidden gem along Paddington’s Oxford Street offers more than 500 wines to choose from. The fit out exudes a contemporary wine bar feel and the in house wine expert John Giuffre has selected the range of drops here, with a big emphasis on Italian and French short run labels.

10 William St

A wine bar only Paddington could deliver, 10 William St is a frequented haven by foodies and wine lovers. Brainchild of the Fratelli Paradiso boys, Italian dining is fused with Australian experimentation with simple, yet contemporary eats to accompany fine drops. The wine list may only be a few pages long, but it’s filled with wines and liquors from sake and sherry to ‘Italy red’.

Bibo Wine Bar

Very chic, very Double Bay; Bibo Wine Bar is the brainchild of chef Jose Silva (ex-Guillaume) and sommelier Louella Mathews (ex-Rockpool Bar & Grill). About 150 bottles of mostly Aussie wines accompany Portuguese share plates, with a ‘museum’ list of 50 bottles from architect Paul Jones’ cellar. Jones was the man who once owned the space and, yes, it means Penfolds Grange is on the menu.
