The Best Phở in the Inner West

A steaming bowl of phở (FYI that’s pronounced ‘fuh’ not ‘fo’) is the answer to many a frosty winter evening. The traditional recipe calling for a salty broth poured over fresh rice noodle and a hearty serving of meat, fresh bean sprouts and crisp herbs, there are few meals quite as nourishing as Vietnamese phở.

Thuy Huong’s does authentic Vietnamese well and there no nonsense rendition for $12 is a local favourite for super fresh phở. Finish the meal off with a serving of Vietnamese fried ice-cream ($12.50).

Vina’s Vegan Eatery ensures that everyone gets to sample the healing goodness of a piping hot phở ($12). Their unbelievably fresh rice paper rolls ($6) and vermicelli noodle salads will accompany the phở perfectly.

PHD os a local favourite - the traditional phở noodle soup is available with medium rare beef ($15), your choice of brisket, beef ball or tripe ($16), chicken ($15), seafood ($16.50) or bean curd ($15).

is adored for its exceedingly traditional, high quality phở dac biet ($17) that features waygu meat balls, thinly sliced black angus beef and braised brisket short rib and their trademark beef broth and fresh rice noodles. Better yet, they do a vegan phở ($19).

Pho 234 ensure that locals have a place to drop in for a bowl of the good stuff on their way home. Their Rare beef and noodle phở ($12) and its variants go down really well and complete it with a Vietnamese Ice Coffee ($5).

234 Liverpool Street, Ashfield

Saigon Lane’s  traditional Vietnamese phở with braised beef, rice noodles, bean sprouts, herbs and spices ($15) is a must when you’re in this neck of the woods. Don’t forget a serving of the Traditional peking duck pancakes ($8) to start the meal off.

Thanh Binh’s phở of the tái (rare beef), gà (chicken) and đặc biệt varieties are created using traditional Hanoi rice noodles, aromatic beef broth, fresh basil, bean sprouts and lemon ($12). The beauty is in its simplicity.

Great Auntie Three delivers the phở goods, with an impressive offering of authentic Vietnamese street food which means you’ll be devouring banh mi, rice paper rolls and noodles until the cows come home.

Quyen  prides itself on its strictly authentic approach to Vietnamese cuisine, with beef, chicken, bean curd and seafood ($10-$13) phở the menu’s bestsellers, team it with an entrée of sugar cane prawns ($12) and Vietnamese crepe pancakes ($12).

Minh Vietnamese has built their reputation on their beef noodle phở ($12) which has been cooked using the same recipe for 30 years – so it’s safe to say that they know what they’re doing when it comes to the delicious goodness that is phở.

Le Tran is cherished by local Rozellians not only for it’s phenomenal phở ($17), but their delectable Vit xao guang cai – that’s duck fillet stir fried with ginger and fresh vegetables ($29.50).

576 Darling Street, Rozelle

Pho Express’s classic beef phở ($16) slow cooked in a 16-hour broth using a house-special blend of herbs. Their oxtail ($15) and beef shin ($15) phở varieties are worth returning for. Complete the meal with Gai Cake ($3.20) an exotic Vietnamese style cake that is vegan-friendly.

Old Thanh Huong offers Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese dishes, it’s the latter that we’re interested in with the phở ($12) and its thinly sliced, perfectly tender beef strips served in their 10-hour slow cooked beef broth and topped with fresh basil, bean sprout and lemon.

Pho Noodle House has a mean phở dac biet that includes a combination of beef, tendon balls, tendon, tripe and brisket ($10) alongside an array of cold vermicelli salads to break up your soupy encounter.  

165 Concord Road, North Strathfield

Phở Ha Noi Quan is a no-frills eatery that does top shelf phở for just $9. They also offer egg noodle dishes and a host of Vietnamese classics such as rice paper rolls and sweet and sour soup.
