10 of Sydney’s Most Virtuous Lunches

Sydney has a vast selection of healthy eating options for when you’re in need of a delicious, guilt-free lunch. So next time you’re out and about and craving a virtuous lunch, these are the places to pop in to.

Nudefish Poké

This poké venture puts a Sydney spin on the Hawaiian cuisine – ensuring every delicious element of your poké bowl is doing you good. Their ‘boat to bowl’ philosophy is apparent and while you can build your own bowl, it’s the Pineapple Ponzu Tuna and Wasabi Salmon creations that pique our interest.

Bondi Beach, Sydney CBD, North Sydney

About Life

About Life is synonymous with vitality and health and will provide you a nourishing lunch without fail. The menu across cafés works to exhibit the best (and most inventive) creations without sacrificing on flavour. Almost any grain you can think of makes an appearance, and the superfood burritos will leave you feeling superhuman.

Bondi Junction, Cammeray, Crows Nest, Double Bay, Lane Cove, Rozelle, Surry Hills

The opening of Verd in downtown Barangaroo means there are no excuses for us city folk to skip a healthy lunch. Verd’s salad bowls bring incredible flavour out of strictly nutritious ingredients; the Raw Rad Thai with kale, baby spinach, carrot, beetroot, daikon radish, bean sprouts, peanuts, tofu, coriander, mint and a zesty satay dressing tastes so good.

Barangaroo, Surry Hills

Bread & Circus

If you find yourself in the Inner West around lunchtime, there are few better spots to pick up a healthy feed than at Bread & Circus. The wholefoods canteen delivers a menu replete with organic dishes which changes daily – the Daily Plates are unfailingly perfect – and their extensive Fine Tea list will help you recover from the inside out.

21 Fountain Street, Alexandria

Warren & Holt

The allergen and vegan friendly philosophy at Warren & Holt is a godsend for those with specific intolerances. Their chemical free, nutrient dense and ethical sourcing of meat makes the place a haven for the health-conscious. Their elegant menu traipses between all day breakfast plus lunch options, with the sweet coconut load and spring zucchini ‘linguine’ catching our eye.

415 Illawarra Road, Marrickville

Orchard Street Elixir Bar

These guys are renowned for their impeccably healthy organic juices and smoothies. Their cold pressed juices are a favourite for fanatic detoxers as well as those in need of a vitamin hit. Also offering raw food meals, treat, elixirs and other organic products, you’ll be feeling incomparably virtuous after stocking up at Orchard Street.

Bronte, North Bondi, Paddington

Ouroboros Organic Wholefood Café

Nestled in the heart of trendy Surry Hills, this venue is ideal when it’s Friday and your body is begging for something wholesome to see you through the weekend. The toasted Sonoma sourdough sandwiches are surprisingly decadent, while a gluten free marinated grilled chicken burger will have you giddy with delight.

118 Devonshire Street, Surry Hills

The Farm Wholefoods

This ‘fast casual dining destination’ brings effortless, healthy food to the health-conscious-yet-time-poor folk of Sydney. Without being fanatical, their selection of Farm bowls, sandwiches, and light meals (hello chia pudding) tick every box, and it will be hard to resist adding a tempting (but totally guilt-free) sweet to your order.

Potts Point, Baulkham Hills

At Proteini eating healthy does not mean missing out. The inventive menu reworks old favourites with a focus on subbing out the nasties with wholesome ingredients – the homemade Snickers Slice is a must. Add a rejuvenating smoothie to your order, though it’s not like you’ll need any more nutrients after wolfing down the Caveman’s Bowl.

1/256 Crown Street, Darlinghurst

Daily Eats

Set just back from the bustling Taylor Square, Daily Eats hums with devotees popping in and out for a quick and easy feed. Serving vegan, gluten and dairy free food (don’t worry, meat and dairy are still on the menu) you’ll be drawn to their handsome salad bowls from the dukkah crusted chicken to the green seasonal bowl.

14/425 Bourke Street, Surry Hills
