The Best Matcha in Sydney (Plus Other Fun Drinks!)

Don't leave it to chance. This edit of the best matcha in Sydney will take you to paradise.

Blackwood

It takes a seriously impressive drink to lure Sydneysiders away from their coffee, but matcha lattes are in hot pursuit as a top-tier drink. Packed with health-boosting nutrients and a natural caffeine kick, the drink (which is used in Japanese tea ceremonies) is essentially ground green tea leaves that create a powder rich in antioxidants and chlorophyll. The amino acids in the powder prompt a slower release of caffeine, so you get a hit without those post-coffee jitters.

As the drink's popularity grows, so do the variations available and we love to see it. From strawberry matcha to lavender matcha, you'll find it all in our edit of the best matcha in Sydney...

Matcha-Ya

Matcha-Ya

This sweet cafe tucked down Steam Mill Lane is the perfect place for a long overdue catch up over a cup of the good stuff. Linger over a ceramic mug of hot or cold 100% pure matcha or houji-cha and choose from a range of extras including marshmallow, honeycomb, sakura and chocolate. Feeling extra? The parfait, topped with Matcha-Ya's incredible matcha or hojicha soft serves is a fan favourite. If you've got the space, delve deeper into the dessert menu which features traditional Japanese desserts like zenzai mochi, waffle sundaes and signature roll cakes - all available in our favourite matcha flavour.

Blackwood

Blackwood

Blackwood has always made a quality matcha (and other fun drinks! - the Biscoff latte is phenom) but the latest addition to the menu, the strawberry matcha latte, has become a sensation. The secret recipe contains homemade strawberry jam, oat milk and matcha and is as smooth as silk. Dine in if you fancy a dramatic dining moment where you can enjoy watching the colours of your drink dance as you pour in your matcha shot.

Cafe Kentaro

Cafe Kentaro

Kentaro's Asian-fusion menu features their signature matcha creations, with the beautifully brewed latte a popular menu choice for green tea fans. But don't just stop at the latte, peruse the menu for their outrageous desserts (matcha mille feuille anyone?).

Oh!Matcha

Oh!Matcha, based in the heart of the CBD, sells a huge range of variations on the iconic matcha and hojicha flavours. Choose from frappes and ice drinks to lattes, cakes, desserts and soft serve. Can't get enough? You can also grab some matcha garlic chips with matcha mayo.

Tokyo Lamington

Known for their incredibly soft lamingtons, available in an array of limited-edition flavours, Tokyo Lamington also make a mean matcha. There is sunny seating to enjoy your ideal combo outside which we recommend after also snagging an onigiri or pie. The lavender matcha is our pick for something a little spesh.

Koko Kawaii

Koko Kawaii

If you like your matcha with a side of cute, head to Koko Kawaii where they'll pop your favourite pop culture face on the top of your drink. They also have a whole menu of specialty drinks should you like to delve further, including a mango Yakult drink and strawberry kiwi tea. Koko Kawaii also doubles as a craft cafe so you can also decorate a cake, paint a cookie or make a sweet beaded key chain whilst you're there!

T Totaler

T Totaler

If you're commuting through Town Hall but haven't yet hit up T Totaler take this as your sign. As well as selling a bunch of beautifully packaged tea blends, T Totaler also boasts a Tea Bar where customers can grab a cuppa to go. Their strawberry matcha latte is an absolute delight but if you feel like deviating a little, give the pink chai a go.
