From sun-up, Byron is pulsing with an eclectic mix of on-trend cafés and eateries championing paddock-to-plate ethos, late-night bars and an array of boutiques that are overflowing with lustful homewares and fashion. Plus, there’s the weekly farmers’ market which brings in the region’s freshest farmgate produce.

Without missing a beat, Byron’s music and arts scene is thriving. The annual events calendar is filled with an array of sell-out festivals, and even on the streets you’ll get your music fix, with roaming buskers and street performers aplenty. Art galleries shine a spotlight on local and international talent, and monthly community markets are a platform for local artisans.

Being the popular travel destination that it is, adventure sports have etched their way in, in a big way – from mountain biking to sea kayaking to skydiving – and surf schools are in abundance. And although the many holiday homes and boutique guesthouses are a growing presence, they do little to detract from the easy-breezy lifestyle that Byron is renowned for.

Neighbours

A beachside town that was once swarming with surfers, backpackers and peace-loving souls, Byron’s easy-going lifestyle and lush surrounds proved too hard to keep under wraps. Although Byron is still very much an oasis for surfers and backpackers with their humble beach shacks and kitted out combi vans, these days entrepreneurs, city-folk and creatives are all flocking to sample a taste of the laid-back boho lifestyle. And with them, they bring big-city money and stunning waterfront and hinterland abodes.
