Butter Canteen & Provisions (Image Credit: Harvard Wang)

Adelaide's charming café culture is seriously underrated, drawing everyone from serious breakfast aficionados to lovers of strongly brewed coffee from near and far.

Each month, new bakeries, hole-in-the-wall coffee shops, casual eateries, and bougie brunch venues pop up across the city and surrounding suburbs, delighting customers with their originality in both dishes and décor.

To keep you across the city's latest openings, we've compiled the best new cafés in Adelaide to add to your list this month. Enjoy!

Butter Canteen & Provisions

Butter Canteen & Provisions at Lipson Street Collective

This teeny family bakery and catering company is now serving out some delicious sweet treats from their residence at Lipson Street Collective

Head to Butter Canteen & Provisions on Friday and Saturday from 8.00am to indulge in some of the best slices of cakes in the business, as well as the likes of oreo choc chip and honey roasted peanut cookies, madeleines, and genmaicha rice crispies. There's savoury fare too - think homemade sausage rolls, kimchi corn and cheese focaccia, greens hand pies and freshly filled baguettes.

It's all best served alongside the expert sourdough from resident sourdough baker Paul, who's onsite Thursday through Saturday, 7.00am until sold out.

Yuna

Yuna

This new Henley Beach cafe is a beautiful representation of Japanese culture and cuisine, thanks to its cool tones, exposed timber and concrete interiors, exceptional matcha and hojicha blends, and their take on the best snack in the game right now - the onigiri. In flavours of smoked tuna, kimchi egg and soy mushrooms, these seaweed wrapped delights will never not hit the spot.

Other home-style dishes to enjoy at Yuna include tamago (egg) and juicy fried chicken shokupan sandos, cold soba noodles and Japanese breakfast sets alongside specialty coffee (hello, Ona beans) and sake. Try the matcha with salted cheese foam for something uniquely delicious.

It's comfort food at its finest. One of our favourite new cafes in Adelaide.

Don's Deli

Don's Deli

Another sandwich spot? Why Adelaide, you spoil us! Say hello to Don's Deli. With it's focus firmly on takeaway, this is your perfect detour before work or for a quick bite at lunch.

Coffee, sandos and pastries are the order of the day, with a vibe that embraces Italian tradition and focuses on simple deli-style fillings in their sandwiches.

Think a variety of focaccia sandos, from porchetta to loaded continental styles, as well as toasties such as mortadella and pesto.

And yes, while it is more for the grab-and-go crowd, those who want to linger a bit longer can do so on the couple of stools and crates available outside. Because there's nothing better than a coffee and sandwich combo, al fresco.

Bread and Butter

Bread & Butter

Former sous-chef of East End Cellars, Sittichai Bunlung, is now the proud owner of Woodville's newest hotspot, Bread & Butter. From dream to reality, this cafe exudes freshness and creativity.

Start your day right with their signature bread and butter, a simple pleasure elevated to perfection. But the menu doesn't stop there—indulge in tempting treats like buttermilk hotcakes with caramelised apple and miso butterscotch, or savoury delights like house-made meatballs with scrambled eggs and salsa.

Feeling peckish? Add a side of the magical crispy mushroom chips with aioli or dive mouth first into their wagyu beef burger, for just $20 a pop. The venue's ambiance is as inviting as its menu, with a refreshing vibe and charming décor featuring plenty of lush greenery.

Bread & Butter welcomes all—including your furry friends!

Tonino Deli

Tonino Deli

The next best thing to a Euro summer vacay? A visit to Tonino Deli, which is bringing the best of Italy to Adelaide. Be charmed by the friendly vibes and inviting aromas drifting out onto the street.

Think authentic prosciutto and mozzarella, chicken cotoletta and melanzana focaccia sandwiches and perfect coffee that lead into spritzes and affogatos and a glorious selection of pasticcini and dolce. Cannoli, anyone? It's just like Nonna made 'em!

Hark Coffee Roasters

Hark Coffee Roasters

Seriously good coffee with a side of adorableness thanks to the owner's groodle onsite. Now this is a coffee shop and roastery we can get behind. Hark Coffee Roaster's second venue has put down roots in Panorama - and it's serving up euphoric brews that will keep your spirits high all day long.

Head to this long-filled suburban warehouse for their signature dark-roasted coffee and a delightful selection of sweet and savoury bites, including a mouthwatering bacon and egg roll with housemade relish.

The unique space features a massive glass wall, allowing you to witness the art of coffee roasting in real-time. Indulge in high-end filter coffees at the dedicated pour-over bench, or take home beans sealed for freshness in vacuum-sealed pouches.

Feeling adventurous? Visit the brew bar and create your own personalised blend.

Where coffee is not just a drink—it's an experience; Hark Coffee Roaster's is one of the best new cafes in Adelaide.

Hey Zozo's

Hey Zozo's

Opening its doors just in time for the last warm days by the coast, Henley Beach has a new café dishing up our favourite brekky-to-go dishes in a spot that's all about community vibes.

Taking over the pink digs from Homesick Henley, Hey Zozo's is set to become a go-to for locals looking for great coffee, quick bites and friendly banter.

Hey Zozo's - sister venue to Hey Juj in McLaren Vale - is home to a tasty menu of sandos and fresh pastries, warm and welcoming interiors and no pretentious energy in sight.

The space is on the small side, so we recommend grabbing your morning bev and bite to go and heading for a stroll along the glistening Henley Beach.

1/337 Military Road, Henley Beach

Rodeo Deli

Rodeo

New kids on the block, Rodeo, are the sandwich pros that serve up more than just mighty sandos – it's a hub of good vibes in the heart of Norwood.

Despite its small size, Rodeo exudes vibrant energy, thanks to some big personalities and a steady flow of Pogo coffee to complement your sando.

With a growing menu featuring toasted and fresh varieties, as well as flavour-packed rotating specials, there's no shortage of combinations to explore.

Our top pick? The fresh prosciutto and marinated veg sando with creamy whipped hot honey and pesto. Chef's kiss.

224 The Parade, Norwood

Burro Henley

Burro Henley

The sando craze in Adelaide is showing no signs of slowing down, with Burro Henley joining in on the fun.

Fresh to Henley Beach, a coffee and a sando has never looked so good. Just around the corner from the beach, pop in and say hello to the friendly staff, order your perfect brew and watch as your toastie or fresh panini gets filled with the good stuff.

With plenty of options to choose from including fresh, toasted, meat-free or loaded with slices of deli meats, your sandwich cravings will be more than satisfied.

Feeling a little tapas? Visit on a Thursday or Friday evening to enjoy plates of tasty bites with friends and cheers to the weekend ahead.

Gelato Messina Kent Town (Image Credit: @fenj_)

Gelato Messina

While this is more gelato than coffee, there was no way we weren't going to talk about Gelato Messina finally finding a place to call home in Adelaide.

A long-term staple for ice cream fanatics interstate, Adeladeans have waited patiently to get our hands on some of the best ice cream in Australia, and we have not been disappointed.

With over 20 flavours to choose from plus fancy fortnightly specials, take-home tubs, celebration cakes and creamy thick shakes for those who prefer to drink your gelato, you are spoilt for choice. The benefit of the line out the door? Plenty of time to pick your scoop of choice.

The fitout? Chic. The ice cream? Oh-so-creamy. The vibes? Immaculate.

Work

Work

Opening in the heart of the CBD on bustling Pririe Street, Work is a welcome new addition to the early commute and mid-morning coffee break for city slickers.

With a winning combo of crumbly pastries and fresh bread from Prove Patisserie and beans from Adelaide roastery Rio Coffee, Work is all about keeping it fresh and local, for the locals.

With busy office workers in mind, the industrial-chic café is open from 6am on weekdays, with an extensive 'Grab and Go' selection of paninis, muffins, cookies and the cheeky ethos that it is, in fact, cool to go to work.

Superfoods Cafe

Superfoods Café

How's the 2024 health kick going? If it needs a little boost, we recommend a visit to Superfoods Café that's well worth the trek to Port Adelaide.

With an extensive menu of guilt-free feeds, this is the place to go to nourish your body with healthy bowls, smoothies, sandwiches, activated lattes (think charcoal and beetroot) and fresh juices packed with vitamins and nutrients.

The acai smoothie bowls alone are nothing short of spectacular. Taking it up a notch from your standard bowl, Superfoods is blitzing up Biscoff, cookies and cream and coconut varieties that you need to try, ASAP.

Here's to food that looks good, tastes good, and makes you feel good, too!

208 St Vincent Street, Port Adelaide

Munch Deli

Munch Deli

Inspired by the popular deli scene of Melbourne, Munch is the new hole-in-the-wall hotspot that's bringing sensational sandos to Adelaide.

On the menu, you'll find 'Goldie Oldies' - also known as the much-loved classic cheese toasties - but if you want to broaden your sando horizons, we recommend choosing from the 'Out of the Box' menu.

With combos like shredded lemongrass chicken with Asian buffalo sauce or a pho-style brisket with pickled shallots and chilli jam, you'll love munching on these pockets of deliciousness that bring a slight Southeast Asian flair to the flavour.
