Elliot Garnaut is the fashion stylist to know about. He’s styled some of the biggest names on the scene, think, Rozalia Russian, Nadia Fairfax and Kate Waterhouse, to name a few. Despite being well-versed in the world of fashion, this sartorial superstar also knows his way around Melbourne like the back of his hand (which is adorned with a Rolex Datejust by the way.) With a keen eye for chic local hangouts, Elliot recently showed us around his favourite spots to eat, sip and shop around town.
How long have you been an Melbourne local?
Born and bred Melbourneite! I grew up in Toorak and moved to South Yarra upon my return to Melboune (after 5 years away in Hong Kong/Sydney) in 2016.
3 things you love about Melbourne?
1. The pace. Melbourne is a city of perfect pace. Equally as exciting as it is relaxing – you never feel too overwhelmed in Melbourne yet you’re never ever bored.
2. The landscape. I adore the inner city surroundings of Melbourne. The gardens on and around Domain Rd, South Yarra are some of my favourite in the world. I find a summer’s afternoon having a drink park-side at The Botanical one of the most relaxing past times.
3. The shopping. I’ve travelled so much, lived overseas and I can STILL say with my hand on my heart, that Melbourne has the best shopping in the world!!
A Melbourne local gem?
Gript Gym in South Yarra. I’m pretty big on keeping fit and Gript is a South Yarra local’s secret. They host some of the best hit classes and have a smoothie bar on site – so you can chill with your shake post session! Tres LA.
You know you’re a Melbourne local when ...
At least 50% of your wardrobe is black and you’ve turned your nose up at fake tan.
The best cheap eat?
Beluga on Toorak Rd for Grilled Salmon and Brown Rice pack. Gourmet Fish & Chips comin’ at ya!
Breaking into my parents house for a sniff around their fridge. My parents love to entertain so I always seem to get my hands on a good cheese and/or homemade chicken sambo!
The Tan, South Yarra.
Fancy dinner to impress?
Kisume, Flinders Lane. Insanely chic Japanese and some of the best sushi you will find.
After work drinks?
The Prince Alfred Hotel, Church St Richmond. It’s a stone throw from my office and just an all-round great local pub.
Local date night
Baby Pizzeria in Richmond. Italian comfort food done with just the right amount of class to impress that special someone.
Where do you go to ...
Find a last-minute outfit?
Chadstone, The Fashion Capital to dart around the halls like a madman.
Get away from it all?
My family’s farm in Tocumwal, southern New South Wales. No phone reception on the property is an added bonus! Digital detox realness.
France Soir for their insane service. The boys working the floor there really make the dining experience special. Can flirt their arses off too. Dinner with a side of banter.
