At the end of the train line, Sandringham is a peaceful escape from city life that comes complete with every possible convenience. The buzzing village (known locally as Gipsy Village, in reference to times gone by) is the centre of all activity and features an impressive roster of cafés and stores. In fact, the only things that Sandringham lacks are restaurants and nightlife. However, while this sleepy locale is certainly not the place for revellers, the action of St Kilda is a handy 20-minute drive away.
With such beautiful surroundings, it’s no wonder Sandringham residents tend to be outdoorsy types. Rain or shine, joggers and bike riders (and even the occasional rollerblader) make their way along Beach Road. As for the beach itself–well, this is Sandringham’s star attraction. Nearby walking trails, a lovely stretch of foreshore and clean, clear water feel more like the Mornington Peninsula than Melbourne. With imposing cliffs and red bluffs, the area’s beautiful natural features bely its convenient urban postcode.
