One thing’s for sure – Black Rock is a beauty. Home to the kind of city beaches that give Sydney a run for its money, this picturesque neighbourhood has been providing wealthy Melburnians with a welcome sea change for generations. Located just 18 kilometres from the bright lights of the CBD, this little slice of coastal paradise feels like it’s worlds away from the chaos of modern life. But, luckily for us city folk, it still offers all the amenities and a premium location.

This charming suburb is all about lifestyle. Equal parts laid-back and affluent, Black Rock Village features an ever-growing roster of trendy cafés and chic boutiques. Indeed, brunch is taken rather seriously here, and foodies can be seen making the trek from across the city to sample the fine local wares. But the real drawcard is the beauty of the natural surroundings.

The crystal-clear waters of Black Rock’s scenic Half Moon Bay are home to the wreck of colonial naval vessel HMVS Cerberus, making what is one of Melbourne’s finest beaches also its most historically significant. The burnt orange-hued Red Bluff and the numerous wildlife reserves that wind from the shoreline through to the town centre are equally awe-inspiring. It’s enough to make you forget that Black Rock is the proud owner of an urban postcode.

Neighbours

With its stunning beachfront and low-key brand of affluence, Black Rock is the stuff family dreams are made of. Established Melbourne clans who want a taste of the great outdoors (accompanied by that fresh salty air) have been calling this seaside suburb home for generations.
