Want to really get away from it all? Then the Mount Mee section of D’Aguilar National Park may just be the best camping spot near Brisbane for you (except if you have a campervan or caravan, you’re fresh out of luck at this destination). An hour and a half from Brisbane, you have two campsites to pick from, Archer or Neurum Creek. Archer has an open grassy area surrounded by lush bushland, while Neurum Creek is an enclosed forest. The campsites may be small with minimal facilities, but when it comes to camping near Brisbane, this one is a real treat.

Booloumba Creek Campground, Conondale National Park

In just under two hours from Brisbane City, tall eucalypt trees, waterfalls and lush rainforests make Conondale National Park some of the best camping near Brisbane. There are several camping sites to choose from, but Booloumba Creek 1 and 3 are our picks. It’s a BYO everything kind of deal. Accessible by high clearance 4WD only, there are only twenty sites at each with minimal facilities because here it’s all about getting away from the crowds while immersing yourself in some pretty impressive rainforests.

Along the northernmost tip of Moreton Island, within walking distance to Honeymoon Bay and the Champagne Pools, is the North Point Campground. A picture-perfect place to set up camp, this family-friendly spot loves to keep things low-key. There are only twenty camping sites, many of which are shaded, and you'll also find hybrid toilets, cold showers and access to the surf beach. There is a swimming spot nearby which is shallow and calm – perfect for cooling off at one of the best camping spots near Brisbane.

Harry's Hut, Great Sandy National Park

To get to Harry's Campground, it’s a bit of a choose-your-own adventure, which makes this one of the best camping spots near Brisbane in our humble opinion! A two-and-a-half-hour drive north of Brisbane, this camping ground is on the upper reaches of Noosa River. Canoe, boat, walk or 4WD your way in, but be sure to book ahead for one of the seventeen dedicated campsites. The actual facilities are pretty basic, but with direct water access, you won’t mind as you explore Noosa Everglades and Lake Cootharaba.

Murray Falls

One of Queensland’s prettiest waterfalls certainly makes for a scenic setting and one of the best camping spots near Brisbane. Located within Girramay National Park, this spot is surrounded by rainforested mountains and the crystal-clear water of the Murray River. The waters cascade over boulders and form sparkling rockpools that are just begging to be swum in. The camping area is a large, open grassy area with shady trees. Teerk Roo Ra National Park (Peel Island), Moreton Bay

A little island paradise off the shores of Brisbane, Peel Island is a heritage-listed island paradise that’s just begging to be explored. Only accessible by boat (your own boat, that is) and with limited bush camping areas, you will feel worlds away from it all at one of the best camping sites near Brisbane. Anchor at either Horseshoe Bay or Platypus Bay to explore the clear waters of the marine conservation park. Although you will need to be entirely self-sufficient, this is hands down, one the coolest camping trips near Brisbane.

Mount Barney Lodge Camping

Mount Barney Lodge Camping

If you like a few creature comforts while camping, then book a spot at Mount Barney Lodge Camping, an easy two-hour drive south of Brisbane. Although they offer a Queenslander homestead and cabins, it’s the camping along the creek-front, with mountain views and a cosy fire that won us over as one of the best camping sites near Brisbane. An idyllic spot for families, the grassy, shaded campground has unpowered grass campsites with designated fire circles, plus a modern amenity block with hot showers.

Tangalooma Wrecks, Moreton Island

Another convenient getaway that’s seemingly worlds away from Brisbane (but really, it’s just across the bay), is the Tangalooma Wrecks Campground on Moreton Island. Located near the main landing point for Moreton Island Ferries, it’s an easy walk to get to, plus it has views of the shipwrecks which were deliberately sunk to create a break wall. It’s a popular spot for snorkelling and diving, and the campground itself has cold showers, hybrid toilets and untreated running water. The stunning surroundings and snorkelling opportunities at this gorgeous destination definitely make it one of the best camping sites near Brisbane in our books!

Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays

This campsite is not-so-close to Brisbane, but we couldn’t not include it - it’s just too stunning! Just in case you needed an extra reason to book a holiday at the Whitsundays (unlikely), we recommend searching up some images of Whitehaven Beach. Then imagine waking up with the sparkling white silica sand at your tent door. This glittering coastal strip winds around Whitsunday Island, the largest of 74 islands in the Whitsundays area. There are a limited number of camping spots permitted, so make sure to book in advance. During your stay at one of the best camping spots in Queensland, take short bushwalks with guided tours, or set off on the scenic route yourself to reach the lookout at Tongue Point for panoramic views.

The best camping site near Brisbane for the keen fishers, Lake Monduran is full of Bass and Barramundi.
