Randwick, where world-class sport meets style

When racing season rolls around, Randwick is the only place to be – with punters, fashionistas and A-listers flocking to Sydney’s first and most famous horseracing destination, Royal Randwick. It’s the place where sport, style and culture unite, and it shines most brightly on Melbourne Cup Day.

The multi-million dollar venue is as beautiful as it is impressive. As well as hosting trackside parties and live racing, it’s home to the largest LED screen this side of the equator, so the audience can feel even closer to the action. It also boasts over 30 bars and restaurants, member marquees and top-notch facilities. With the bar set high, it’s no surprise it’s the venue chosen to host Sydney’s richest horse race, the $4 million Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Along with attracting the jet set during the autumn and spring racing carnivals, Randwick is a vibrant suburb that locals don’t ever really need to leave. It’s bordered by beaches and the sprawling Centennial Park, and the area in between is a hive of activity – think cinemas, shopping centres, pubs, wine bars and The Spot in the centre of it all.

After betting big on the thoroughbreds, revellers spill into the range of restaurants lining the streets, such as The Cookhouse, The Spanish Fly, Corner 75 and Jimbaran Restaurant. Then, they sip and dance the night away at the likes of Li’l Darlin, Randi Wix or the Coach and Horse Hotel, depending on the vibe they’re looking for.

The social scene aside, Randwick has some of the city’s best educational and medical institutions, including the University of New South Wales, Prince of Wales Hospital, The Royal Hospital for Women and Sydney Children’s Hospital. For families, there are several primary and high schools to choose from, plus plenty of parks and playgrounds.

Now, that’s a suburb that combines culture with convenience.
