10 of the Best Sriracha Dishes in Sydney

Whatever the title you give it, every rendition of the heat-laden, fiery sriracha sauce is a winner in our books. From Thai, Vietnamese, Korean to Mexican, every cuisine’s take on the hot-sauce is worth sampling. The venues below are a must for your next sriracha hit.

The OHBAR 1982

For authentic Thai it’s hard to go past The OHBAR, who craft a searing-hot yet scrumptious roasted chilli paste, which is the backbone of their signature Namprik dishes. The Lhon Nam brings coconut milk, sour pork, salt pork crackling, fish sauce and their famous Thai chilli paste together for a delicious creation, only improved by the addition of their perfectly executed Tom Yum Goong soup.

4-5/187 Liverpool Street, Sydney CBD

Flying Tong

The fried chicken at Flying Tong has certainly made a name for itself, with sweet chilli, soy garlic and the spicy bomb dried chilli renditions proving too irresistible to forgo. There is nothing cheesy about the cheesy corn lathered in mozzarella and served sizzling while the gogi fries sprinkled with bulgogi beef, shallots, spring onion and of course, sriracha mayo is something the entire table will drool over.

99 Enmore Road, Newtown

Phomo

Avoid FOMO by paying the Pho-meisters a visit for a slurp-able serve of their Pho. While this Vietnamese creation doesn’t serve the traditional sriracha style sauce for dipping or glaze, their pho just begs for a healthy drizzling of sriracha atop the creation for a hot kick. The combination beef pho is our pick, especially when teamed with a plate of the Vietnamese tapioca dumplings.

Barangaroo and Sydney CBD

Khao Pla

It wouldn’t be a proper Thai experience (nor present on this list) without a hearty addition of nam prik heat. The Gai pad nam prik pao with chicken, cashew nuts and chilli jam at Chatswood’s Khao Pla is a popular favourite, and you can’t go wrong with the gaeng Panang thick red coconut milk curry.

7/370-374 Victoria Avenue, Chatswood

Chin Chin

Paying a visit to this buzzy Sydney spot is all but mandatory this summer, with a visit hardly complete without tucking in to the wok fried spanner crab omelette with snow peas, coriander and sriracha. The Miang of scallops and spicy isaan duck larb make handsome accompaniments while the coconut sago with lime curd and pineapple granita sure to soothe your tingling palate to finish.

69 Commonwealth Street, Surry Hills

Chat Thai

The widely loved Chat Thai boasts venues across Sydney, with locals addicted to their honest Thai fare designed with casual Thai street food in mind. For a serve of the Thai-style ‘nam prik’ heat, try the Nahm Prik Gapi featuring shrimp chili relish, vegetables, herbs and egg-battered eggplant, boiled egg and fried mackerel.

20 Campbell Street, Haymarket

Boon Café

A passion project designed to bring new flavours and artisanal goods to the Thai-obsessed folk of Sydney’s inner city, Boon Café’s lunchtime offering is all about that northern region spice. Sample the Nahm Prik Nuum with green chilli relish, spicy pork, herb sausage, soft-boiled egg and pickled cabbage salad. Add a house-made iced tisane for a cooling finish.

1/425 Pitt Street, Haymarket

Alphabet Street

For a modern Asian meal, Alphabet Street’s menu is a treasure trove of fresh, creative dishes that you’ll be tempted to order in abundance. A fitting start is the kingfish sashimi with green apple salad and nahm jim – a dipping style sauce that also features in the fish floss, sweet pork and green mango salad. Be sure to add the Miang betal leaf with tea smoked trout and tomato relish to your order.

5/8 Kingsway, Cronulla

Sriracha Thai Street Food

If you’re in the mood for an authentic meal, take a trip to Bonnyrigg for Sriracha Street Food’s delectable offering. It’s all about the Special Sriracha Sauce here, with the cashew nut noodles and the deep-fried pad cha quail both given a tasty slathering. The sriracha fried rice delivers a welcome touch of heat and the egg star quail egg pastries will sit perfectly alongside your fiery smorgasbord.

1a/5 Rigg Place, Bonnyrigg

Spice I Am

This Surry Hills venue is all about flavor, ensuring that each authentic Thai dish is crafted so expertly you’ll feel you’ve stepped onto the streets of Bangkok. Their Ka Nom Jeen Nam Prik with fermented rice vermicelli and peanut chilli sauce packs the sriracha-style hit you’ve been looking for, while the Pla Lard Prik deep fried whole fish is a total crowd pleaser.
