Shaw + Smith

You’ll be gushing over the views from the moment you pull up to Shaw + Smith’s cellar door. To the backdrop of rolling hills and grapevines, opt for a tasting experience; Wine Flight features five new release Shaw + Smith wines and three local kinds of cheese. The Limited Release Flight Tasting has five rare and limited aged releases or single site wines, all paired with a South Australian artisan produce plate. Delish.

Set aside a good few hours when dropping into this family-owned winery. Their cellar door provides tutored tastings and has wines you can’t drink anywhere else, including their late releases and cellar museum selections. The farm to table restaurant, The Gallery, champions ingredients from their kitchen garden and local growers, or if you’re short on time, taste their olive oil or cheese and antipasti during your tasting. They also host concerts and sell luxury designer accessories.

Nestled amongst the apple orchards of leafy Lenswood, LEKO Wine's vineyard and tasting room showcases a selection of delicious and novel cool climate drops. Sister brand to award-winning Koerner Wine's from the Clare Valley, settle down to stunning countryside views and work your way through their on-point Chardonnays and lighter style reds – think Pinot Noir and Merlot. Wine making duo Damon and Jono Koerner of Koerner Wines were awarded the prestigious 2019 Riedel YOUNG GUN OF WINE award for their adventurous and creative wine making techniques, so you you know at LEKO Wine, you'll be in good hands.

At The Lane, you’ll be in awe of the views of the vineyards – they stretch right across Adelaide Hills, the perfect setting to sip your way through one of their award-winning tasting experiences. When two families with generations of horticulture and winemaking in their blood join forces, this is what happens. Set amongst the trees, Pike & Joyce boasts a state-of-the-art tasting room that takes in views of their single estate vineyard. When it comes to winemaking, they use old-world techniques and their restaurant changes with the season. Their à la carte menu delights, but the tasting menu, that can be paired with their Museum Wines, is a definite must.

Minutes from Adelaide Hills, along the foothills of Mount Lofty Ranges, Penfold’s Magill Estate is one of Australia’s most iconic wineries, not to mention one of the best wineries in Adelaide Hills. Dating back to the 1840s their Grange wine keeps smashing awards to this day, garnering a perfect score the past two years running. Pop in for a wine tasting tour (in English or Mandarin), or lunch at their fine dining restaurant which offers decadent degustation experiences. For something a little more casual, Magill Estate Kitchen has lunch and wine pairings.

Mount Lofty Ranges Vineyard

At the Mount Lofty Ranges Vineyard, all vines are hand pruned, and all grapes are handpicked, making these guys one of the few remaining wineries still employing these age-old practices. But that’s not all that’s cool about this place. Half the property is pristine bushland, and their rustic barn cellar door and Hatted Restaurant comes complete with a central open fire-place and panoramic views. The restaurant offers two-, three-, and five-course tasting menu, all of which is matched to their wines.

Golding Wines

Sitting up high in the Adelaide Hills region, Golding Wines Western Branch Vineyard is a must, and one of Adelaide Hills’ best wineries. It boasts lush gardens, a landscaped terrace and a family-built sandstone barn. The barn itself was previously a farm shed, a wine yard workshop and a family home, but nowadays it’s set up as a fabulous tasting room and market kitchen restaurant where you can settle down to a delicious drop and moreish menu that’s designed to be shared.

On the edge of historic Hahndorf Village, Hahndorff Hill is not one to shy away from the town’s German roots. They make Austrian varieties, Gruner Veltliner, in four different styles, and their tasting experiences have won them several awards. The ChocoVino Experience has you tasting wines matched to the world’s most acclaimed chocolate, and the Wine Flight and Cheese Plate offer a selection of wines with four cheese and gourmet biscuits, all from their enclosed balcony.

Howard Vineyard

For lovers of the rustic chic look, Howard Vineyard is a dream. From the beautiful surrounds of their vineyard, their stone barn is the perfect backdrop to many events, and their tasting room and dining area is a nod to the rugged beauty that surrounds them. One of the best wineries in Adelaide Hills, they offer the traditional wine tasting experience alongside tastings with cheese platters, while the restaurant shines a spotlight on ingredients harvested from their garden as well as local growers.

With a cellar door that hovers over the lake, K1 By Geoff Hardy is one of the few wineries in the region that boasts lake and vineyard views. The deck is a popular spot to be. Still, inside, the handcrafted tasting bench, handmade by Geoff Hardy himself from a 400-year-old red gum from his Limestone Coast vineyard, is a neat spot to sip your way through a selection of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Shiraz. Round out the experience with a cheese platter.
