The 8 Most Beautiful Lakeside Accommodation Across Australia

There’s something so soothing about staying on a lake. Maybe it’s the beautiful backdrop, whether it’s country or the coast. Maybe it’s the stillness of the water, broken only to swim, fish, boat, or indulge watersports. Or maybe it’s the thought of sipping coffee (or wine) while watching the sky change colours above. Whatever it is, we’re always down for lounging by the lake.

If you are too, this is the most lovely lakeside accommodation across Australia.

Lake David
With rolling hills, wineries and walking trails aplenty, Kangaroo Valley is one of rural NSW’s gems. For your next visit, book Lake David, a stunning, resort-style home on Lake Yarrunga. It sleeps up to 18 people, and no detail has been missed. Along with a fully fitted-out chef’s kitchen, there’s a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, pool table, fireplace, tennis court, and alfresco dining areas.

Lilies Luxury Retreats
Planning a romantic getaway? Lilies sits on a 25-acre property in the Hunter, and has a string of private, self-contained stays to choose from. Our pick is the Luxury Lakeside Spa Retreat, which has two master suites (if double dates aren’t your thing, you can rent the whole place), kitchen and BBQ facilities, and a beautiful backdrop where the mountains meet the lake.

Pumphouse Point

In Tassie, the Lake St Clair National Park is pristine, and its lake is the deepest in Australia. There’s a 250-metre pier that juts out over the water, and Pumphouse sits proudly at the end. The 18-room hotel is the definition of industrial-chic: it’s imposing on the outside, yet cosy and luxurious inside, with floor-to-ceiling windows to soak up the incredible lake views.

Top tip: Lake St Claire Lodge is the only other resort built within the World Heritage-listed area. The eco-friendly cabins are quaint and beautiful.

The Lake House

You deserve the finer things in life, so treat yourself to a stay at The Lakehouse in Daylesford – a charming country town known for its mineral springs and Victorian architecture. The retreat is luxe, with plush suites, a library and private cellar. It’s famous for the Salus Spa, where some services take place in treetop huts, and its restaurant, which holds two Chef’s Hats.

Built over a lake in the Mornington Peninsula, they’re part of Crittenden Estate, a vineyard that produces award-winning pinot noir. The villas come with all the mod cons, including a double spa bath and a balcony that extends over the lake.

Cottage Point Inn

To venture to a hideaway a little closer to home, book the Cottage Point Inn. Sitting pretty on the waters of Cowan Creek and surrounded by Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, you will feel completely away from it all. And it’s all within a 50-minute drive to Sydney’s CBD. A foodie destination in its own right, they also offer two apartments that are designed as a romantic couples retreat.

The hinterland estate has its own vineyard, as well as 22 luxe rooms and a restaurant that showcases the best local produce. Our tip? Do the Chef’s Harvest Dinner, held every Sunday.
